Centrum Diagnostyki i Terapii Onkologicznej – Katowice

The Radiotherapy Department is equipped with three Elekta Synergy linear accelerators, microSelectron HDR brachytherapy apparatus and modern dosimetric planning, management and verification systems.

Radiotherapy is planned using computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and PET/CT. Linear accelerators have been equipped with Image-Guided RadioTherapy system, which enables cancerous tumour irradiation with high precision. Additionally, in some clinical situations (prostate cancer, liver metastases, pancreatic cancer) radiotherapy is performed using markers (Fiducial Markers) placed under ultrasound and/or CT control in the area immediately adjacent to the tumour.

The department conducts highly specialised procedures in accordance with applicable radiotherapy protocols and international guidelines.

The Department of Radiotherapy was the first in Poland to be accredited by the M. D. Anderson Radiotherapy Center Houston, USA. Within the Department and Ward of Radiotherapy, medical services are provided on the basis of a contract with the NFZ “Rapid Oncology Therapy” (in Polish: Szybka Terapia Onkologiczna).

The staff is involved in a number of charitable activities and actions in the field of cancer prevention and health promotion. We cooperate with foundations and associations (e. g. Amazons) supporting patients and their loved ones in the fight against cancer. Every year, together with the Silesian Medical University in Katowice and the NU-MED Foundation, the run “We Run for Health” (in Polish: Ubiegamy się o zdrowie) #OncologiaNaCeglanej is organised, which gathers an increasing number of lovers of a healthy lifestyle.
